What does the 2 represent?
2 is the name or type of the pencil not its ranked position.2. Why do we press harder on the remote control when we know the batteries are getting weak?

To be in a movie, one is in a small part acting out the larger story.
You might be in a TV show where one is a part of the story but the story is viewed on a television set.
Hence the term on TV.

When loaves of bread were not sold sliced many families had difficulty cutting bread evenly or sharpening knives good enough to cut the bread.

Slim chance means very little possibility of something like success happening.
Fat chance is the same but the speaker is using sarcasm with the word fat.

A lot of singers singing other peoples songs often tend to imitate the accent of the original singer.
Singers singing their own original songs tend to use more of their own accent.
The concept of music tone and pitch could sometimes mask the singers accent a little.

Apparently there were at one stage in battery development.
The sizes that survived were aa, aaa and D size batteries but as battery capacity increased and products became smaller even the D size batteries seem to be fewer.

In some countries this means to look out or be aware of something about to happen.
Lookout is often used more in some countries and would in some cases would cause a person to duck.
In the interest of clearer language duck would be the better word to use if a person needed to duck to avoid something.
In the case of motorbike riders it means to look up into the distance or to the furthest edges of a corner unfolding. Most beginners tend to look too close to the bike and miss the dangers as they unfold.
