Khǎaw thôot khráp/kâ, raan sewen thi glai thi sut yu thi nai khrap/ka
(Politeness): Adding ครับ/คะ (khrap/ka) makes the sentence polite, especially when speaking to strangers.
Breakdown:
เซเว่น (Sewen) is the universally understood transliteration for "7-Eleven" in Thailand. Avoid using "เซเว่น-อีเลฟเว่น" (Seven-Eleven), as it’s rarely used in daily speech.
(Asking for Directions):
Start with "ขอโทษครับ/ค่ะ" (Khǎaw thôot khráp/kâ) = "Excuse me" to sound polite.

ห้องน้ำที่ใกล้ที่สุดอยู่ที่ไหนครับ/คะ
Hông náam thîi glâi thîi sùt yùu thîi năi kráp/ká
ห้องน้ำ (hông náam) = "toilet"
ที่ใกล้ที่สุด (thîi glâi thîi sùt) = "the nearest" (literally "the closest")
ที่ (thîi) = particle for creating a relative clause.
ใกล้ (glâi) = "near."
ที่สุด (thîi sùt) = superlative suffix ("-est").
อยู่ที่ไหน (yùu thîi năi) = "is located where?"
The following particles replace the need for a direct translation of "please" in Thai, as they inherently convey politeness in questions.
ครับ/คะ (kráp/ká) = Polite particles.
Use ครับ if the speaker is male.
Use คะ (with a rising tone) if the speaker is female
For even softer politeness, at the start add
ขออนุญาตถามหน่อย
kŏr à-nú-yâat tăam nòi
May I ask, where is the nearest toilet?
